This course provides an introduction and overview to smartphone applications. The course materials discuss the background, evolution, and development of smartphone apps. Current challenges of transportation apps and guidelines for public agencies are also covered in the course. The course material is based on Smartphone Applications to Influence Travel Choices: Practices and Policies, FHWA Publication No. FHWA-HOP-16-023.

After completing the course, the learner will have a better understanding of transportation efficiency and congestion reduction through mobile applications, as well as an understanding of the following topics:
