This course explains the laws of friction for sliding, rolling, and lubricated surfaces, as well as discusses abrasive, adhesive, pitting, and corrosive wears. Factors essential to achieving and maintaining the fluid film required for hydrodynamic lubrication are also discussed in this course. The material is based on Lubrication Principles, US Army Corps of Engineers, EM 1110-2-1424, Chapter 2.
After completing this course, the learner will have a better understanding of lubrication, as well as an understanding of the following topics:
Sliding and rolling friction
Wear and surface damage
Types of wear
Lubrication and lubricants
Fluid film lubrication
Boundary lubrication
Extreme lubrication
Electro hydrodynamic lubrication
