This course material explains splices and the different types of splices, namely shop and field splices. The material explores the general considerations of field splice design, loads for splice design, section properties for splice design, and controlling splice design section in great depth, and further explains the homogeneous plate-girder calculations for the design of a field splice. This course material is based on the following steel bridge design handbook: Splice Design Publication No. FHWA-IF-11-052 Vol. 14.
