This course introduces a rational design framework suitable for determining the limit state conditions, enabling the designer to establish adequate margins of safety. The Limit Equilibrium concept related to soil reinforcing is also explained in the text. The content covers common methods of analyses, as well as specific designs of MSE walls. The course material is based on Limit Equilibrium Design Framework for MSE Structures with Extensible Reinforcement, FHWA Publication No. FHWA-HIF-17-004, Chapter 1 through 7.
