The course material describes various methods for safe design and construction of driven pile foundations. The course material explains the applicability, advantages, and disadvantages of the in-situ testing methods. The course material is based on Design and Construction of Driven Pile Foundations, FHWA Publication No. FHWA-NHI-16-009, Chapter 5.

After completing the course, the learner will have a better understanding of geotechnical design parameters for pile foundations as well as an understanding of the following topics:

• Soil classification and index properties
• Laboratory tests for soil shear strength
• Effective stress and friction angle correlations
• Fully drained shear strength of fine-grained cohesive soils
