The course material describes two-dimensional, finite-element simulations of historical mining. The course material lists the various sets of instruments installed, namely multi-point borehole extensometers (MPBX's), shaft set load cells, borehole temperature sensors, strain potentiometers, and rock bolt load cells. The course material explains the computer program that handles cutting and filling of initially stressed anisotropic rock masses and describes the types of subsurface systems like storage vaults/tanks, gravel beds, and stormwater chambers.
