This course provides the guidance for analysing the static stability of slopes of earth and rock-fill dams, slopes of other types of embankments, excavated slopes, and natural slopes in soil and soft rock. The course material provides guidance for strength tests, analysis conditions, and factors of safety. The methods provided in the notes are based on methods of stability analysis that satisfy all conditions of equilibrium. The course material is based entirely on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Engineering Manual EM 1110-2-1902: Engineering and Design Slope Stability.

At the conclusion of this course, the learner will have a better understanding about the engineering and design of slope stability as well as the following:
